Ten Lords a-Leaping
Merry 10th Day of Christmas – Wed. Jan. 3, 2024
See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. (1John 3:1)
This verse is from today’s first reading. On a good day it is easy to appreciate that I am a child of God. On a bad day, it is certainly more difficult – especially when dealing with frustrating situations or difficult people.
As a child of God, and follower of Jesus, following the 10 Commandments is something to strive for each day. Today’s meaning of the 12 Days of Christmas is a good reminder of that!
Why Ten Lords a-leaping on the Tenth Day of Christmas?
The ten lords represent the Ten Commandments. Today seems like a good time to have a refresher on that list, so here it is:
- I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
- Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.
- Honor thy father and mother.
- Thou shalt not kill.
- Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- Thou shalt not steal.
- Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.
Looking over the list…
The Commandments are certainly good to follow as a child of Jesus. Combined with the Beatitudes (see 8th Day of Christmas), they are definitely some rules to live by.
Merry Christmas,
Karen
