Three French Hens

Merry Third Day of Christmas!

Morning coffee by the light of the Christmas tree is so lovely! The quiet of this time gives me an opportunity to reflect on this beautiful Season.

Why Three French Hens on the third day of Christmas?

The three hens represent the three theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. These were given from God and poured into our hearts.

The three hens are also symbolic of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

A Beautiful, Simple Prayer

Growing up Catholic, I have always been drawn to the more formal prayers. The Hail Mary, the Lord’s Prayer and the Memorare are three I pray most often. When my mom was in hospice, one of her favorite priests came to visit her and he asked her if she was praying and she expressed it was difficult to say the prayers (due to her illness). He told her, the Sign of the Cross is a beautiful and simple prayer. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. In the two-and-a-half years since her death, I have never forgotten that beautiful moment with Mom and the priest.

I encourage all who read this today to pray your favorite prayer – be it formal or one you speak from your heart. If you cannot decide what to pray, perhaps try the beautiful and simple prayer of the Trinity: in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Merry Christmas,
Karen
