Nemo: 25-days-old – Part 1
October 30, 2013. Since we were up very late, the first two videos here were taken at about 1:30am. The third, a bit later in the morning. Nemo explores in our bathroom. Notice how his ears have popped up a bit. He has also started teething; I can feel the very tips of his baby teeth. As with our other kittens and foster kittens, Nemo seems to like to hide out under the stool in the bathroom. We...

Nemo: 24-days-old
October 29, 2013. Our first morning home after being away for two weeks. Our dogs and cats are curious about Nemo. When we left, Nemo was not doing more than eating and sleeping. Now, he is interested and aware of his surroundings. Our younger dog, Kelly, is always willing to lick the formula off of Nemo’s face. Our oldest cat, Jethro, is not too sure of this interloper. Jethro is six years old. He came to me as...

October 26, 2013. At three weeks old, Nemo is becoming more interested in his surroundings. He is alert for longer periods of time and enjoys being out with everyone. We still have to be mindful of keeping him warm so we usually keep him on our laps. Nemo, 3 weeks old,...

Nemo: 12-days-old
October 17, 2013. The days are zipping by and Nemo is growing just as fast! Here he is on October 17, 2013, at 12 days old. We had arrived at our friend’s house, near Rogersville, Missouri, two days earlier. Nemo seems comforted when we hold him, but he is also content to sleep in his nice warm carrier when we are not holding him. 10/17/12 – Nemo – 12 days old – eyes opening...

Nemo: 9-days-old and Traveling
October 14, 2013. My husband and I had a trip planned for several months. When I took Nemo home with me, back on October 8, 2013, it was only supposed to be for a few days. I knew we were leaving on the 14th and was not planning to cancel a trip because of a kitten. My husband, however, suggested that we just take him with us. Since we were going to visit friends, who are also fellow...

Nemo: 8-days-old
October 13, 2013. We made it past the first week! This is huge – many orphaned kittens do not make it past that first week. Here some photos of Nemo, after a feeding. Since Nemo does not have a mother cat to nurse and care for him, I am his “mother.” Bottle feeding is pretty easy to do. However, one thing that many people do not realize is that kittens cannot eliminate on their own. The mother usually...

Nemo: One-week Milestone!
October 12, 2013 and Nemo is one-week old! By this day, our own cats are becoming used to him being in the house. Ellie Mae, who is 4, is usually around when I feed Nemo. When he is in the crate, she often sits on top of the crate. If I have Nemo in my office (usually to feed or just to keep him warm by having him on my lap), Dexter is often nearby observing. If you...

Nemo: 6 days old
Nemo’s growth has been quite rapid. By 6 days old, on October 11, 2013, he had nearly doubled in size. Our younger dog, Kelly, showed interest in him from the start. As with my first cat, Jethro (who was also an orphan that I bottle fed), Kelly has made it her job to clean the formula off of his wee little face. At this point, our other cats and our older dog were not impressed by Nemo....

Finding Nemo
On Tuesday, October 8, 2013, I was doing some volunteer work for Catvando TNR. My husband and I have already fostered a couple of kittens for the organization. This particular afternoon, I was at their office doing some computer work. While there, a woman brought in this tiny kitten. He was so young that he still had the umbilical cord attached. He was initially dubbed “Itty Bitty Kitty.” Given that the little guy still had the umbilical cord attached...

Nemo’s Corner

After several weeks of photographing and filming Nemo, the orphan kitten my husband and I took in on October 8, 2013, I decided to organize everything on my blog. I have been uploading photos and videos to my Facebook, but have been encouraged to gather them all in one place. Perhaps visitors will be amused, fall in love with cats for the first time or simply gain some encouragement if they decide to take on the care of...

See The Fly?
A common housefly can be a source of irritation. Or amusement and comfort. Growing up, my parents took my five siblings and I on many camping trips. On one of those adventures, a fly had gotten into the family tent. This turned into a contest of sorts when each of us would call out, “See the fly?” or “See the fly go by.” Quite silly, and still makes me laugh when I think about our dad saying these...

It’s a Charlie Kind of World
Last Friday, July 19, I brought home Charlie, the latest foster kitten. This guy is a charmer. He is very different from the little sisters that I had last month. This guy is about 7-8 weeks old now and was trapped by an inexperienced trapper back on June 24. He is a feral and unfortunately the trapper didn’t get his mom or his three siblings. My mission is to socialize him, with the help of my own felines,...

Foster Kittens: Caroline & Julia...
I fostered this pair of cute sisters from June 18 through July 13, 2013. My family had the pleasure of socializing and enjoying these two rascals for nearly one month. They were adopted by a very nice young lady. Caroline and Julia were about 5-6 weeks old when they moved in with us. Caroline is the black/silver kitten; Julia is more brown in color and slightly smaller than her sister. Check out some more photos from the sweet...

Bananas!
Bananas are a staple in my house. They are the perfect add-in to my oatmeal. I love them as a snack after I work out, especially with some peanut butter on them. I add them to my protein shakes, too. However, it seems that they often ripen before I can eat them all. Rather than let them go to waste, try this tip once your bananas get ripe. Peel them, slice them up and place them on...
